The Eighth Annual Art of the Portrait conference was held May 4th through May 7th in Dallas, Texas. This year's program was once again a huge success with ample opportunities for artistic development and networking. The program kicked-off with a 4x4 Demonstration of four artists working in four mediums. Throughout the weekend, there were numerous other demonstrations, including a Joint-Tripartite program featuring Daniel Greene, Everett Raymond Kinstler, and Burton Silverman each taking a turn as model and artist. As an exciting addition, a giclee print of the three portraits will be available with all proceeds benefiting the Portrait Society. Friday afternoon found the participants in a series of twelve different breakout sessions, allowing each person to tailor the programming based on their individual needs and interests. This continued with a plethora of lunchtime programs, including the always popular individualized portfolio critique sessions. A Texas-style BBQ was hosted by Raymond Nasher at his breathtaking Sculpture Museum in downtown Dallas. The evening was spent in conversation while perusing this remarkable collection. Once again the sold-out Awards Banquet was an exciting and memorable event with the Gold Medal going to the legendary Andrew Wyeth. Stephen Doherty gave an intimate account of his experiences working with Mr. Wyeth. On behalf of the Academy of Art University, Craig Nelson accepted the Excellence in Fine Art Education and Wilhelmina Cole Holladay, founder of the National Museum for Women in the Arts attended the banquet to receive our Leadership in the Fine Arts Award. The weekend culminated with a trip to the Fort Worth Cultural Arts district for a walking tour of six museums.

The Portrait Society would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the members of the faculty that graciously gave their time and expertise to make the weekend an educational and enlightening experience: Robert Barrett, Margaret Baumgaertner, Jason Bouldin, Wende Caporale, Judith Carducci, Timothy Clark, Jacob Collins, Tom Donahue, Calvin Goodman, Daniel Greene, Edward Jonas, Everett Raymond Kinstler, David Leffel, Robert Liberace, Sherrie McGraw, Michael Shane Neal, Kirk Richards, Anthony Ryder, John Howard Sanden, Chris Saper, Burton Silverman, Timothy Thies, Henry Ward, Gordon Wetmore, Dawn Whitelaw, and Luana Luconi Winner
