Burton Silverman is considered one of America's foremost realist painters. Educated at Columbia University and the Arts Students League. Silverman's work has won 32 major awards from national organizations including five awards from the National Academy of Design.

His works are included in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of American Art, Parrish Museum and Hofstra University Museum. Silverman has presented slide lectures in museums and art schools on a wide range of topics related to realism in the 20th century.

He has been commissioned to paint portrait covers of Time magazine and has drawn portraits of over 125 persons featured in the Profiles segment of the New Yorker from 1964 through 1994. He has been featured in magazines such as American Artist, The Artist's Magazine, Art Talk and International Artist.

fostering and enhancing the practice, aesthetics and applications of traditional, fine art portraiture.
Membership is open to all individuals with an interest in the art of the portrait.
